Triangle Premiere Production! May 23rd-June 9th, 2019
Gus is an artist. Vanessa is an actress. Gus wants to be presented in a major exhibition for artists of color, so he hires Vanessa to perform as Balkonaé Townsend, a brash and political artist that will fit the museum’s desire for “new voices.” Everything is great, until Balkonaé takes over and Gus has to deal with the mess he’s made. This play, written by James Ijames, spins out of control as it explores issues of race, gender, sexuality, and art.
A.C. will be playing the role of Jane in this production, directed by JaMeeka Holloway-Burrell. It will be A.C.'s debut at Bulldog Ensemble Theatre, a group of Durham artists who create exciting productions of the best new American plays that speak to the community. Inspired by the 30-year legacy of Durham’s Manbites Dog Theater, Bulldog Ensemble Theatre works to cultivate artists and audiences for adventurous material. That includes developing plays by local writers and teaching classes in theater arts for community members.
